Celebrating 30+ Years of Dedication: A Farewell to Todd Giesler
Some people leave a job. Others leave a legacy.
For more than 30 years, Todd Giesler has been an essential part of the Boise Co-op Market, bringing his passion, humor, and unwavering dedication to every role he’s held. From his early days as Wine & Beer Manager to his time as a cashier and Deli associate, Todd’s impact on the Co-op and its people is immeasurable.
Now, as he prepares for his well-earned retirement, we want to take a moment to reflect on his journey, his favorite memories, and the values that have made him such a beloved part of our community.
A Career Spanning Decades
Todd first became part of the Boise Co-op family in 1990, when he transitioned from working at Idaho Wine Merchant to selling wine at the Boise Co-op. On January 2, 1990, he stepped into the role of Wine & Beer Manager, where he remained until 2006.
During those years, Todd helped shape the Co-op’s legendary wine selection, bringing in carefully curated bottles and sharing his deep knowledge with customers. In 2007, Todd made a life-changing decision: he embraced sobriety. That path led him to a new chapter within the Co-op, first as a cashier, and then, on November 4, 2008, he officially joined the Deli & Kitchen team—a move that coincided with another historic event: Barack Obama’s election as President.
For the next 16+ years, Todd honored that moment by decorating his locker with a new image of the First Family every week. Over time, that tradition expanded into a collection of art, commentary, and personal expression, reflecting Todd’s keen artistic eye and love for culture.
A Legacy of Relationships & Rituals
Beyond his hard work, Todd is known for his genuine connections with his coworkers. Over the years, he built friendships that were full of laughter, wisdom, and mutual admiration.
Robin Buchanan, a longtime colleague, has secretly left a PayDay candy bar in Todd’s locker on every Co-op payday for over 16 years—a small but powerful gesture of camaraderie. She also made sure he had chocolate licorice on Co-op Cash days.
Roben Latham, whom Todd calls his "Earthly Angel," has been his go-to for art advice, deep discussions, and humor. Their friendship spans back to Todd’s days in the Wine Department and remains a cherished part of his journey.
Linda Ledbetter, whom Todd holds in the highest regard, has led HABA, the Espresso Bar, and the Cheese Department. She has been a constant source of encouragement, laughter, and support, proving that some work friendships last a lifetime.
Amber Enlow and Jenn MacFarlane, Todd’s dear pals through thick and thin, have been a constant source of support and friendship over the years. As part of Customer Service, their warm smiles and enthusiasm make the Co-op a truly special place to work—unlike any other in Boise. Customers know them by name, and their daily conversations are often the best part of a shopper’s day, creating a sense of community that makes the Co-op feel like home.
Todd’s story isn’t just about what he’s done—it’s about the people he’s lifted up along the way.
Living the Co-op’s Core Principles
If you want to see Boise Co-op’s values in action, look no further than Todd.
From curating exceptional wines to ensuring top-notch service in the Deli, Todd has upheld the Co-op’s commitment to excellence every single day for over 30 years. His journey of personal growth and dedication is a testament to his integrity. His unwavering honesty and commitment to the Co-op’s mission have made him a trusted team member and mentor. Todd has always been an advocate for conscious consumerism—from sourcing sustainable wines to making sure food quality in the Deli reflects responsible sourcing.
As a cashier and Deli associate, Todd has ensured that every customer, vendor, and coworker felt welcomed and valued at the Co-op. Above all, Todd has been a pillar of kindness and humor. Whether offering advice, cracking a joke, or simply being a listening ear, he’s made the Co-op feel like home to so many.
Notes from The Co-op Crew
“Todd is the kind of person who greets you every morning with a positive, caring comment, instantly brightening your day. His vast knowledge of sports, music, and the Boise community is unmatched—he seems to know just about everyone, both here and beyond. When he took a trip to LA, he even went out of his way to visit my childhood home in Hollywood and filmed it—a gesture that truly speaks to his thoughtfulness. Years ago, he organized a fundraiser where the Middle Eastern troupe I was part of performed, showing his dedication to both community and culture. I’ve always loved the carefully curated pictures he places on his locker each week, and I know I’ll miss seeing him every Monday morning, washing lettuce while I set up produce carts. Now, with retirement ahead, his wife will take him on new adventures, and I couldn’t be happier that he has this time to enjoy. I think all of us at the Co-op are sorry to see him go but wish him nothing but the best—and he better come visit us once in a while!” - Roben Latham
“Todd, you’ve been more than just a historian—you’ve been a storyteller, a mentor, and a keeper of the Co-op’s legacy. Your passion for this place and your willingness to share its history with all of us, especially the newbies, has made a lasting impact. I’ll truly miss your enthusiasm, inventive ideas, and the way you’ve enriched my experience here. Thanks to you, I have a deeper appreciation for where we started and why we continue to thrive. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter—you’ll always be part of the Co-op family!” - Eileen Schnerr
“Todd is a force for good in the world. I've long admired his ability to remember little details about our customers, his dedication to service with a smile AND a kind word, and the pop culture factoids he's always prepared to share when someone needs a happy distraction from their woes. He's one of the most genuinely kind and caring people I've ever known. It's hard to imagine the Co-op without his calm demeanor and sly sense of humor. He's part of the DNA of this organization, and I'll miss him more than I can express. Enjoy every moment of your hard-earned retirement, friend!” - Linda Ledbedder
“There is nobody who better resembles what the Co-op is, than Todd. He is a beacon of light and laughter for the entire Co-op. His jokes, commentary, and artistic flair will be missed by the entire crew. I feel very fortunate to be able to work alongside him for so many years. He's taught me the value of being kind, patient, and silly. I wish nothing but the best for him as he enters this next chapter of his life. Cheers to many more years of baseball games, vacations, hanging out with the grandkids, and lazy days with Lynn!” - Abby Hughes
“At the heart of the co-op, is its people. No one better exemplifies this notion than Todd, who has touched nearly every aspect of the Bosie Co-op. Having worked in various departments and being part of its many changes over the years. A keeper of our rich history, Todd remembers and shares the story of where we come to new faces at the co-op to maintain our legacy as we look ahead to where we are going. Always positive, Todd helped to sculpt my perspective of the Boise co-op and helped me fall in love with its charm. I'm so grateful I got to know the co-op through Todd and that he has become a dear friend!” - Bug Reardon
“I remember when I first started at the Coop, 10 years ago, I was incredibly nervous and knew nothing about the grocery industry. All I thought was this would be a job to tide me over till my next move. As I began meeting the employees, I quickly realized how special this place truly is and Todd was one of those people who made it that way. He was so warm and inviting and said hi to me and every day he saw me, remembering my name every time. I saw the way he interacted with customers, with coworkers… he was so genuine and radiated a genuine kindness and compassion for all. Todd, you will be missed dearly and we will continue your legacy of what it means to be a beautiful human being. Long live Todd!” - Jenny Rivera
“Let me tell you a few things about my friend and co-worker of 28 years, Todd. Everyday I get to see him it puts a smile on my face. He's always has a good story or memory of our times here together. His generous soul is always thinking of the people he cares about, which is an absolutely amazing quality. We share a love for baseball and the Dodgers. He has actually brought me back dirt from the Dodgers pitcher's mound and palm leaves from outside the Dodgers stadium! ⚾ We have shared so many great times in all these years at the Co-op. We have met numerous celebrities shopping in the Co-op, seen all the growth this place has gone through, and maintained special relationships with the regulars and co-workers over the years. I could go on and on, but just know.... Todd, you are one of a kind, you are loved, and will be dearly missed by all! Happy trails friend!❤️” - Jenn Mcfarlane
