International Gruit Day
International Gruit Day is February 1st, and we're going to be pouring our collaborative gruit, 800 Years Too Late, as well as Prof Briem's 13th Century Gruit at the tasting counter in the North End from 4:30 - 6 pm!
Gruit is an old style beer brewed without hops. Instead, the bittering agents are herbs. Our collaboration with Woodland Empire uses celery seed and fresh mint to temper the sweetness of the malts. The malts are a mix of rye and Northwest-grown 2-row barley malt. The name of the collaboration, 800 Years Too Late comes from the inspiration for this beer: a 13th century text.
Stop on by for the pouring and, in the meantime, check out these pictures from the brewing process!
