DIY: Dried Orange Garland
Have a very merry Hygge Holiday by incorporating elements from nature into your decor. Since it’s the start of the citrus season, making an oven-dried orange garland is a simple and cost-effective way to decorate for the Holidays. This DIY is as simple as thinly slicing oranges, dehydrating them on a low temperature in the oven, and stringing them through some festive twine to form a garland. Make your house smell zesty by draping your garlands across the window or even around your Christmas tree. This project is not only easy to do, but it will also bring the warmth of the holidays into your home.
Ingredients
3-4 navel oranges
Sharp serrated knife
Cookie sheet
Silpat baking mat or parchment paper
Kitchen Towel
Decorative twine
Large-eye blunt needle
Cinnamon sticks (optional)
Directions
Heat oven to 225 degrees F.
Line cookie sheet with Silpat or parchment paper.
Slice the navel oranges crosswise about 1/4″ thick using a sharp serrated knife. Blot the slices dry with the kitchen towel.
Place the orange slices in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for roughly 2 1/2- 3 hours. Flip the slices over about halfway through.
Once slices have cooled enough to handle, cut the twine to your desired length and thread it through the needle and start threading the dried orange slices about 1-2 inches apart.
If you’d like your orange slices to lay flat, use the needle to poke two holes about 1/2 inch apart on orange slices, then thread the twine through both holes.
Tie the ends with a cinnamon stick to make it more festive (optional).
