This year’s Boise Co-op Board of Directors election has three open seats, and each of the three seats are for three-year terms (2024-2027). The candidates are Jay Henry, Greg Janos, April Hale, Brittany Manzek, and Kyle Wilmot.

Election results will be announced on October 1st, and at the Annual Meeting on Monday, October 21st.

Jay Henry

I grew up on a small, family run farm in Wisconsin.  It was there that I learned that the way we care for the land, animals, and our neighbors directly affects our community and throughout my time in different places I have tried to be a part of organizations that shared these same values. When my wife Krista and I moved to Boise in 2006 and found the Co-op right in our neighborhood, we were so happy to have a place that was committed to connecting consumers and farmers that becoming a member was the easiest decision we ever had to make.  Being a part of, and supporting, an organization that shares our passion for creating strong relationships with local farmers and producers and watching those relationships evolve and grow has been very gratifying.

I’ve been a hospitality professional for nearly 30 years and have developed and opened many different styles of restaurants and being connected to local purveyors played a huge role in the success of these places.  My connection to the Boise community was strengthened during my time as one of the founders of the restaurant State & Lemp where we were deeply focused on highlighting the food, wine, and beer grown and produced in Idaho.

As a 6-year member of the Boise Co-op Board, it has been a privilege to watch the Co-op navigate its way through very difficult times, and I look forward to being a part of the bright future our Co-op faces as we continue to improve and grow as a company.

April Hale

My name is April Hale and I have owned and operated Open Table Boise (catering company) for the past 15 years. I have grown my business from the ground up, starting with a single employee (me!) to tens of employees and well over a million in annual revenue. I have a degree in business and chemistry and a huge passion for local, quality foods and products as well as customer service. I have extensive experience working with local farmers and producers as well as countless customers/consumers in our community. I have had my pulse on the Boise food market for going on 20 years and understand what both the consumer and the supplier want and need. I believe the Board should be focused on growing the Co-op in size and scope to serve more community members and local vendors. I would love to see greater awareness for healthy foods that are locally sourced and drive more business to the Co-ops to support our community as a whole.

Greg Janos

Greg has been a member and supporter of a Co-op since 1968 first as a college student in Berkeley, California, and again as a family member in three other communities, most recently in Boise. For six years Greg served as the Executive Medical Director of St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital; also serving on numerous community, state, and national boards and committees. Over the past 14 years of living in Boise, he like many others has seen the Boise and Meridian Co-op stores grow and evolve, finding new and improved ways to serve its members and the community. He is very optimistic that the Co-op will continue to evolve, grow its membership, and provide the best possible shopping experience to its Members and the community.

Kyle Wilmot

My wife and I have been members of the Boise Co-op for over 12 years and were first members of the Co-op when we lived in the downtown area and were excited when the new Village location was added. The Village location was near where we had moved our family. It has been great to see the Co-op grow and serve the growing treasure valley community. I want to see the Co-op continue to provide for the community and local producers. I want to be able to help the Co-op continue to keep looking forward and finding different ways to help satisfy its members. I hope to continue to gain new experiences and learn how to participate in different areas in the community. I know, much like my experience at the Y where I have been a member for over 15 years, I went from being a regular member, to being a volunteer for a few years and now work part-time as an instructor. I hope at the Co-op, I can continue on a similar trajectory to be able to support the Co-op in an additional capacity on top of being a long-time member.

I have experience working with Organic and local producers as well as over 15 years of accounting experience to provide to the Co-op community. Our family also believes in trying to live active healthy lifestyles and we know that the Co-op can be a tool to help others on this journey as well. Beyond spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy fly fishing, mountain biking, golfing and being active and enjoying all of the amenities that the treasure valley and Idaho have to offer.
