Make Your Own Apple Cider
We're selling our delicious mulling spices for only $1.18/oz right now, so it's the perfect time to take a stab at making your own apple cider to stave off that chill in the air! This recipe will yield about a half gallon of delicious, homemade cider.
Directions
- Quarter the apples, leaving peels and seeds
- In a large pot, add apples and fill with water until the apples are just covered
- Pour in the sugar
- Put mulling spices in cheese clock and tie, adding the bag to the pot
- Boil on high for 1 hour (uncovered), checking frequently
- Turn to a simmer and cook for two more hours (covered)
- Remove spice bag and mash apples to a pulp (you can use a potato masher)
- Let mixture cool and pour through a strainer into a large bowl. Let the juice drain away, and put the pulp in doubled up cheese cloth. Squeeze over the bowl (make sure it's cool!) until no more juice comes out.
- Store the mixture in a sealed container for up to a week.
- To reheat: put in a pot and warm at medium on the stove. Add in caramels for some added Fall flavor! You can top with whip cream and cinnamon.
