2012 Drouhin Côtes de Nuit Villages, $26.00

I've been buying this wine every vintage for the last seven or eight years with the intention of letting it rest in my cellar for a year or two. It almost never lasts until the next vintage. A bottle of 2010 drunk recently did make it to year two, and it was singing brilliantly! Now the 2012 has arrived and I've already put my dibs on a case. I recently tasted it, and there is no doubt in my mind that it is one of the two best I've ever had, 2010 being the other. Darker fruited than previous vintages, it is also denser and fuller on the palate, with excellent saturation and length. This is an intensely deep and juicy wine with excellent grip, really a cut above the more generic Bourgogne appellation. You can certainly enjoy popping one now for immediate pleasure, but I would suggest holding on to a few bottles to see its true colors revealed over the next couple of years.
