Italian wines aren't always on my radar, even though I really enjoy them, so I made a point of trying one that we recently stacked. This wine has really renewed my interest in the wines from Italy. The Mazzeis have been making wine in Tuscany for more than six centuries. The family’s estates there enjoy a renowned reputation, but not content to rest on their laurels, they decided to expand into Sicily. The result is this Zisola Nero d’Avola. It offers aromas of berries and spice, with a hint of earthiness that leads into lush flavors of black-berries and dark cherries, followed by notes of pepper and spice. Medium bodied, with just enough acidity to balance out the finish.
