I don't typically mention the cork in a wine write-up, however this cork was super-soft, making it a joy to remove from the bottle. The wine is 100 percent Syrah from vines planted between 1979 and 2007 in granite soils. I decanted this wine for about two hours before pouring it into my glass, and noticed that the liquid was an attractive, opulent, ruby color. The nose shows raspberry, lavender, game, and blackberry. On the palate these same fruits come through with a tartness that lends liveliness to a wine that is decidedly feminine and all about elegance. This is the style that I prefer for my Syrah. Only 10 percent new oak is used in making this wine which possesses an alcohol of just 13 percent by volume. Outstanding!
