Have you ever wondered how to describe how your wine looks, smells, tastes or even sounds? Well, grab your glass and dive into this exciting and interactive class taught by Jackie Elo with J.W. Thornton!
Jackie will use a wine aroma kit to introduce you to the many different aromas that the experts refer to when describing wine. Aromas that include fruits such as lemon, peach and cherry; spices such as nutmeg and black pepper; vegetables or herbs such as green pepper and mint; and non-foods such as tobacco or smoke. Some of these come from the grapes themselves; most form during fermentation and some develop during maturation.
This class will also include a tasting of some of the world-class wines that are in J.W. Thornton's impressive portfolio to give you a chance to put what you've learned into practice, then we will end the night with a simple quiz and a chance to win a bottle of wine!
A bit about Jackie, in her own words:
"I dove deep into the wine world at the young age of 18. Being underage at the time, I read...I read a lot about wine and surrounded myself by Boise's finest connoisseurs! I worked at the Grape Escape wine bar for 9 years and that is where I fell deeply in love with the beverage scene. Wine drinkers are travelers, they are artists, and musicians, they write and eat and laugh... Overall, the wine folk are passionate people and that makes me strive to continue to learn and grow. For the past four years I have worked for J.W. Thornton Wine Imports. Our company has a long history in Idaho and we have focused on high integrity brands and importers for over 35 years. My favorite thing about my job, and wine, is it is ever changing. A bottle of wine will taste different today than it did yesterday, than it will in a month and ten years from now. Wine is alive and it makes me alive each day I get to be engulfed in its presence. Cheers!"
